just a logo. no reason to get excited.

Redesigning the gnod logo...

Lately I decided to split Gnod into a couple of sub-brands for music, books, movies etc. While designing a new logo for the music-page (gnoosic.com) I made this page to compare my drafts.

First logo I did, when the name gnod came to my mind.
(Never made it to the public)

First logo that was online and still is. Created some time ago in about 10 minutes...

First try of a logo for gnoosic.com with a new design

This one I sent to 400 people and asked for opinions.
Turned out to be too complex and confusing.

Well, some variation of the one above.

Somehow I'm not satisfied with the s and the c here...

Serifs make a little Better...

But by now, I noticed that I don't like the whole concept of this one very much. It's too stylish and the white font distracts the eye from the center of the screen even more. Stylish design on websites that claim to have usefull content or functionality always make me think, that probably the nice design is in place to compensate the in fact poor content of the actual site. None of my favorite pages on the web has an ambitious design. Look at google, heise and dict.leo.org, the pages I visit most often. My guess would be that a cool design even raises the doubt of a first time visitor and lowers the trust of a repeat visitor in a page.

So, back to the drawing board...

Final result. Almost the same style as the first Gnod-Logo. Smaller font and a slightly brighter color. I like it. Looks a bit like it was made 10 years ago. Well, most of the big players on the net look like their design was made long ago, so maybe this is my ticket to the club :o)

And the moral of the story ? Simplify, Smplfy, Spfy!
